Hastelloy B-3 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to pitting, corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, with better thermal stability than B-2 alloy. In addition, this nickel-steel alloy is highly resistant to attack from the knife line and heat-affected zone. B-3 alloy can also withstand sulfuric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid and other non-oxidizing media. 5 Made by Hastelloy B-3
Due to the increased thermal stability of Alloy B-3, the problems associated with making the composition of Alloy B-2 should be minimized. The low carbon content allows alloy B-3 to be used in the as-welded condition. Hastelloy B-3 has good overall forming and welding characteristics. The alloy can be forged or hot worked as long as it is held at 2250°F for sufficient time to bring the entire part to temperature. Since it is a low carbon alloy, it may be necessary to use lower hot finishing temperatures for grain size control. It can also be formed by cold working. Although B-3 alloy components can be machined quickly, they can be fabricated using all common cold forming techniques.
