MP35N is a vacuum induction, vacuum arc remelting quaternary alloy based on nickel and cobalt with substantial additions of chromium and molybdenum. The alloy has ultra-high strength, toughness and excellent corrosion resistance. The MP35N alloy can be used in the annealed condition, but can easily work to tensile strength levels in excess of 260 ksi (1793 MPa) and retain good ductility. Aging of the processed material causes precipitation hardening and can increase tensile strength by 40 ksi (276 MPa). The density of the MP35N alloy is 8.43 g/cc.

5 MP35N corrosion resistance

MP35N alloy has excellent resistance to general corrosion, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion. The four alloying elements in MP35N are the basis for corrosion resistance of almost all stainless steel, nickel-based and cobalt-based alloys commonly used in the industry. The alloy is resistant to corrosion by hydrogen sulfide, brine and other chloride solutions and mineral acids (nitric, hydrochloric, sulfuric). This alloy is also resistant to hydrogen embrittlement. MP35N is an expensive metal, very similar to titanium, and can cause galvanic corrosion if joined with common stainless steel materials such as 316 stainless steel.
