Linear expansion coefficient

When the temperature of a solid substance changes by 1 degree Celsius, the ratio of its length change to its length at 0 degrees Celsius is called the “linear expansion coefficient”. The typical coefficient of expansion of 4J36 is shown in the table below

Invaralloy characteristics

Invar is the abbreviation of Invariability, which means that the volume remains unchanged.

Most metals and alloys expand in volume when heated and contract in volume when cooled, but due to its ferromagnetism, Invar alloy has abnormal thermal expansion of Invar effect in a certain temperature range, and its expansion coefficient is extremely low , and sometimes even zero or negative values. Its characteristics are summarized as follows:

❶ Small expansion coefficient: The average expansion coefficient of Invar alloy is generally 1.5×10-6/℃, and the volume does not change at room temperature -80℃~+100℃.

❷ Low strength and hardness: the carbon content of Invar alloy is less than 0.05%, the hardness and strength are not high, the tensile strength is about 517Mpa, the yield strength is about 276Mpa, and the Vickers hardness is about 160, which can generally be improved by cold deformation Strength, while the strength is improved, it still has good plasticity.

❸ Low thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of Invar alloy is 10W/m·K, which is only ⅓~¼ of that of 45 steel.

❹ High plasticity and toughness: plasticity, toughness, elongation, reduction of area and impact toughness are all high, elongation δ= 30~45%, shrinkage δ=50~70%. Impact toughness αK=130~310 J/cm2.

❺ Other properties: Due to the high nickel content of Invar alloy, the hardenability and hardenability of the steel are improved, and the gas resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the steel are improved.

Invaralloy use

Due to the advantages of low expansion, Invaralloy 4J36 is widely used in the electronics industry, precision instrument industry and other fields sensitive to size requirements. It is mainly used for: bimetallic materials, magnetic materials, fixtures for measuring instruments, astronomical telescope components, optical instruments, and CFRP. Metal molds, antenna parts, shielding frames for FPDs, frames for high-precision printing, inspection jigs for semiconductors, and processing jigs for semiconductors.
